What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Columbus always tells you about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds reassuring, what does it really mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be NATE-certified. The certification is optional and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts that our team is NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these criteria, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only particular areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)

  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst
