What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Columbus always tells you about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it actually mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be certified by NATE. The certification is voluntary and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to Service Experts that our team is NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these standards, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only particular areas applicable to our technicians. NATE exam candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
