Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last few weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than laying down at night and realizing your furnace won’t start up. If this happens to you, here are some things you can check yourself prior to calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters every 30 days. If you do not, they can become clogged, obstructing air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating system will still not kick on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 614-334-3192 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
