Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last few weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cold nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than laying down at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can check yourself prior to calling Stevenson Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters every 30 days. If you do not, they can become clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your furnace will still not kick on, give Stevenson Service Experts a call at 614-334-3192 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
